Brockville — Leeds-Grenville will benefit from a joint federal, provincial, and local investment of $1,055,161 to improve, recreational facilities under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario (RInC Ontario) and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC). The federal and provincial governments are contributing one-third each of the total and the local municipality of organization will contribute the remaining one-third.

Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville and Bob Runciman, Member of Provincial Parliament for Leeds-Grenville were pleased to announce that these projects some of 758 projects in communities across the province to receive funding under these programs. Fifteen projects were approved in Leeds-Grenville.
“Our government is pleased to support renovations and upgrades to local hockey rinks, swimming pools, parks, playgrounds, trails and other community sites under the RInC Program in Ontario,” says Brown.  “As a result of these investments, residents across Leeds-Grenville will be able to benefit from improved facilities and services in order to continue to pursue healthy and active lifestyles.”
“Today's announcement recognizes the importance of recreation to our local municipalities," says Runciman. "Healthy, active living is so vital for our constituents and these projects will help increase recreational opportunities in Leeds & Grenville.”

The projects were announced today by Minister of State (Science and Technology) Gary Goodyear, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, and Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Leona Dombrowsky, on behalf of George Smitherman, Ontario Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, worth a total joint federal and provincial investment of more than $380 million.

These programs were designed to provide a timely, targeted stimulus to the economy through investments that will spur construction activity related to existing recreational infrastructure. Beyond economic stimulus and job creation, renewing, rehabilitating and modernizing our recreational infrastructure has the additional benefit of encouraging higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.

Projects were selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness.
