Government of Canada helps youth in Renfrew, Pembroke and Lanark counties access career information
September 20, 2011

Gananoque, - September 20, 2011— Local youth will have better and easier access to information on the job market thanks to Government of Canada support for a research study. Mr. Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds‑Grenville, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that young Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Mr. Brown. “Our government is proud to promote activities that help youth make informed learning and career choices as well as prepare businesses for the future.”

With assistance from the federal Youth Awareness program, the 1000 Islands Region Workforce Development Board will carry out a research study to provide youth with a clearer picture of the skills that local employers are demanding, now and for the future. The results of the study will be used to develop a career guide for local youth. This guide will provide information on job trends and educational opportunities, and will assist youth in making a successful transition into the workforce.

The 1000 Islands Region Workforce Development Board will receive over $78,000 in federal Youth Awareness funding for its research study.
